B6-Continuation/Valorisation of the project results after the end of the project
Which actions will have to be carried out or continued after the end of the project?discuss (max. 5.000 characters)[edit]
To consolidate the results of the project so as to ensure their sustainability, it is necessary to ensure that the plant continues to function. This is the main demonstrative mechanism. The actions that will have to continue are therefore those of operating management of the plant and its demonstration (Action B4 - Demonstration run) and the actions of environmental monitoring (Action C2 - Monitoring of the impact on the environmental problem targeted) in addition to the continuation of several fundamental activities of communication foreseen in the Action E5-After-LIFE Communication plan and of which the activity D1-Website project and, naturally D2-LIFE information boards are certainly important parts.
How will this be achieved, what resources will be necessary to carry out these actions? discuss(max. 5.000 characters)[edit]
The activities of project management having a demonstrative character (B4 - Demonstration run) will be carried out by SEARIS in the sphere of its operating duties. Financing of the activities will come in part from the savings derived from not taking the material to the compost plant in Montespertoli and in part from energy savings. This should be sufficient to justify maintenance of the plant in operation for at least 10 years from startup, which is expected in January 2015.
To what extent will the results and lessons of the project be actively disseminated after the end of the project to those persons and/or organisations that could best make use of them (please identify these persons/organisations)?discuss (max. 5.000 characters)[edit]
The partners in the project have great interest in seeing that the COWS solutions is adopted by a sufficient number of users to reach a critical mass that justifies the pursuit of the technologies adopted by the producers, or the growth of an expert community of technicians and maintenance personnel. Just for this reason, the partners are thinking of promoting the COWS solution at the level of sectorial associations in a permanent way by the following means:
- publication of articles on the developments and further adjustments of the plant;
- offering hospitality to the writers of doctoral theses on the subject;
- participating in the main events (conferences, seminars) in the sector in Italy and submitting papers to international events.
The target organizations already identified are:
- Confservizi Toscana, which groups the companies that manage municipal waste services
- Federutility, which groups the managers of integrated water services at the national level
- The National Association of Municipalities (ANCI)
- the provinces and the Union of Italian Provinces (UPI).
Depending on the resonance and acceptance that the project will have, the partners are already able to suggest adopting a regional guideline having the character of a recommendation. This would be the maximum level of local mainstreaming, while the possible elaboration of a BAT (Best Available Technique), though premature at the moment, should not be excluded.
